Welcome, Parents!
Dear parents, as president of the Gamma Tau Chapter of Kappa Delta at Ripon College, it is my honor and privilege to welcome your daughter to our sisterhood and introduce you to Kappa Delta Sorority! Kappa Delta was founded on Oct. 23, 1897, at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, and for over 124 years, Kappa Delta has been building confidence and inspiring action in women of all ages. Our sorority has initiated more than 286,000 members and chartered more than 200 collegiate chapters and 500 alumnae chapters across the country. Our chapter at Ripon College was installed in 2008 and is one of 3 sororities on our campus. Some of our chapter’s recent activities and accomplishments include: Shamrock Shoot Off, Pinwheel Sales, and various other Shamrock-related events raising close to $1050; Going Green with KD, Girl Scout Cookie sales, Mask and Movie Night, etc.; “We Are All In This Together” workshop about sisterhood; You Make Me Smile, Paint the President Blue, etc.; Bowling with Sigma Chi, Corn Maze with Phi Delta Theta, Friendship Bracelet Making with Alpha Chi Omega, etc.; Recognition Award from Kappa Delta Nationals. I’m confident that being a member of Kappa Delta will enhance your daughter’s college experience just like it has mine! Our chapter is led by collegiate officers like me who are elected annually by the chapter members. Kappa Delta encourages its members to assume chapter responsibilities as an appointed and/or elected officer and to be active in other organizations on campus. It’s a great way to develop leadership skills that members will use throughout the remainder of their collegiate and professional careers. As you can tell by our recent activities, Kappa Delta is committed to community service. Our members make a difference in others’ lives through our support of Prevent Child Abuse America, Girl Scouts, and other philanthropic activities on campus. Within KD, your daughter will have a big sister, who is an initiated member who will offer special assistance to help her become familiar with and adjust to sorority and college life. It’s a very exciting time for both our new members and initiated members!Being a Kappa Delta is a positive, enriching experience, but it does come with some responsibilities. We expect our members to meet academic standards and fulfill the financial responsibilities that make the existence of our chapter possible. We hope that you’ll support your daughter in fulfilling her academic, social, and financial responsibilities to herself and to Kappa Delta. We look forward to getting to know your daughter better and meeting you at Family Weekend! If your daughter has questions or concerns, she can reach out to me directly or to an alumna member of our chapter advisory board. We are always available to help!Sincerely, Abigail Urbina Chapter President[224-804-2568| kdgtpresident@gmail.com
